OUR CHAPTER

A long time ago at the university of ariZona...

there was a local sorority, Gamma Phi Sigma. Gamma Phi Sigma was started by five female students at University of Arizona in 1905. Arizona was still a territory then, and the university had just 226 students. The Gamma Phi’s started writing to Kappa Alpha Theta, expressing their interest in becoming Thetas. Correspondence shows the perseverance of the local chapter, and even changed their colors to Kappa Alpha Theta’s signature black and gold. The Gamma Phi Sigma’s petition to join Kappa Alpha Theta was officially granted at Kappa Alpha Theta’s 24th Convention in Michigan (1916).

Since then...

Beta Delta has flourished with membership of 327 collegiate women. Members are involved in campus activities including various Honoraries, MedCats, and Society of Women Engineers; members also serve as tutors, preceptors, lab techs, and interns. Arizona Theta's are known for being leading women in both their academic and professional pursuits. Our members pride themselves on our collective academic success, and currently hold a chapter GPA of 3.38. In January 2018, Beta Delta celebrated 100 years at the University of Arizona. We welcomed back hundreds of our alumnae for a weekend to commemorate our successes and sisterhood. We continue to forge strong relationships with Theta women past and present.

Our dedication to philanthropy...

in 2019, we donated a total of $18,507.72 to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), our national philanthropy. With these contributions, we were able to support CASA of Pima County— advocating for hundreds of underserved, at-risk youth engaged in the foster care system in the Tucson area.

In collaboration with our chapter's Diversity & Inclusion committee and general membership, the Beta Delta chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta is pleased to support the Peoples Defense Initiative. We call on our University of Arizona community and Greek neighbors to help us advocate at this time.
